Shag style area rugs have a long pile (carpet strands) making them retain dirt and soil at a higher level than normal rugs. We use a soft bristle brush to free the long strands of soil and debris. We then vacuum the rug with special equipment designed not to harm the integrity of the fabric. After the shag rug has been cleaned of loose soil we pre treat the rug with a neutral cleaner designed to breakdown body oils, soiling from foot traffic, and outside pollution. Once the cleanser has had a chance to break down the soiling we rinse. Rinsing the shag rug consists of first rinsing with a conditioning rinse followed by a clear water rinse. Shag rugs having the long pile will retain a lot of moisture. When the rug has finished its rinsing process we hang it up to dry in our heated low pressure drying room.
